Film discussion with actress Marie Leuenberger at all screenings
The isolation of a woman left alone by her environment. Forty-year-old Julia, a successful conductor, and her partner Georg want to have a child. Dr Vilfort, a fertility specialist and owner of a private fertility clinic, gives them hope and recommends an experimental method. Thanks to successful treatment at his clinic, Julia becomes pregnant. But complications arise during the birth: Julia is not allowed to hold her baby immediately; instead, it is rushed to another clinic for emergency care. It is not until the next day that the young family is finally reunited. Julia is told that the newborn is perfectly healthy, despite suspicions of oxygen deprivation. As she holds it in her arms, she feels increasingly uncomfortable with it.
The baby's presence increasingly becomes a strain on the marriage, as Julia has doubts about whether the baby they brought home is really her child.
